In Luke 15:11-32, we find the famous parable of the prodigal son. In this story, Jesus teaches us about two attitudes that can prevent us from receiving the inheritance He secured for us on the cross: immaturity and a slave mentality.
A striking characteristic of immaturity is the exchange of eternal things for temporary ones. A classic example is Esau, who sold his birthright for a bowl of lentil stew. So, how can we receive God's inheritance if we remain immature?
To overcome immaturity, it is essential to learn how to navigate life's phases. These stages prepare and strengthen us to face what lies ahead. Patience is a crucial virtue in this process. Impatience is a clear sign of immaturity, and only with patience can we develop the ability to endure adversities and mature spiritually.
A slave mentality prevents us from breaking free from limitations, even when we are free in the Father's house. Although we have access to God's blessings and love, a slave mentality keeps us confined to a limited view of the world.
People with a slave mentality hold onto grudges and bitterness, are envious, and cannot rejoice in the success of others. They focus only on small and insignificant things, even though they have access to all the Father's wealth. This mentality is characterized by scarcity and the inability to see the Father as loving, viewing Him only as an authoritarian Lord.
In Jesus, we are not just creatures; we are children! This transformative relationship should change our perspective and free us from a slave mentality.
To fully live out the inheritance God has for you, it is crucial to work on these two areas: immaturity and a slave mentality. When you manage to transform these areas, a new life opens up. You begin to live the true identity that God created for you, experiencing the fullness of His love and blessings.
Meditate on these truths and allow God to transform your heart and mind. Be patient in the growth process and free yourself from a slave mentality to live as a true child of God.
"For this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." Luke 15:24
"The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace." Psalm 29:11
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
